Australian National Maritime Museum


The Australian national Maritime Museum is a federally-operated maritime museum. Of the six museums operated directly by the Federal government, the ANMM is the only one located outside the Australian Capital Territory (it is located at Darling Harbour in Sydney.)
The museum is open every day from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (it is closed on Christmas Days only.). It is just a 20-minute walk across Pyrmont Bridge and it can be easily reached through car, buses and trains.

The ANNM includes various exhibitions such as special. It contains specific exhibitions e.g. called “Remembering Titanic “ which shows the history of the epic tragedy of the greatest ship afloat, from construction to fateful sinking, rediscovery and the controversy surrounding it, in the hundredth anniversary of the disaster.

Permanent exhibitions at the ANMM are focused around seven permanent gallery spaces:
-    Navigators – looks at discovery and exploration of Australia’s coastline by the foreigners
-    Eora-First People – “Eora means 'first people' in the language of the Darug, traditional owners of the land the museum now stands on”. This exhibition takes us on a journey from Tasmania to Far North Queensland.
-    Passengers – looks at the journeys made to Australia by settlers, refugees and cruise ship visitors
-    Commerce – tells about seaborne trade, the fishing, the whaling industries, and the role of maritime unions.
-    Watermarks – explores a coastal culture's love of water, in the museum's most spectacular exhibition space.
-    Navy - exhibition explores how the Royal Australian Navy operates on land, in the air and under the sea, during peace and war.
-    Australia-USA – it celebrates ties between those two countries


  CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES

 Moreover, the museum offers fun and adventure activities for children. It has something for every sized sailor. Their age-based programs are:
- Mini Mariners
- Kids on Deck
- Youth Workshops
The program provides works of arts including tempera paintings, rubbings and fish sculptures, craft activities, making your own painted speedboat or paper sailor's hat to take home and many others.
What is more, it welcomes care groups, scouts and any other groups during holidays and offers fully organized day e.g. core galleries, exhibitions, entry to the submarine etc.
The museum, also, organizes parties for the little sailors.

ONLINE TEACHING

 The ANMM also gives a possibility enrich learning’s experiences for students with our online teaching resources and comprehensive education programs held at the museum. The online teaching has 7 stages including a lot of programs depends on the stage e.g. ‘Pirate School’ in the first stage and ‘Dipping into History’ in the 5 stage.

“Lessons come alive with a visit to the Australian National Maritime Museum.” The museum offers lessons in about 30 programs for school students of all ages including guide tours of exhibitions, visiting to vessels and various workshops.

Furthermore, the museum has also a professional sessions for teaching staff, included formal presentations or informal discussions with education officers and other ANMM staff.
