The Maritime Museum of Finland presents the history of shipbuilding and diving, life on board a ship, merchant shipping, steam technology and winter navigation. The Exhibition includes material raised from the sea. Fishing and pleasure boats are situated in the boat hall, and at the quay outside the museum the newly restored lightship Kemi, built in 1901.
The extensive exhibition presents the wide spectrum and development of navigational instruments. Items recovered from underwater wrecks like the St. Mikael which sank in 1747 tell a fascinating history of life at sea in the past. The magnificent 7.5-metre scale model, in turn, brings to life the passenger ship Arcturus with its dramatic tale.
