Viking Ship Museum Denmark

The "Viking Ship Museum" in Roskilde is Denmark’s museum for the study of Nordic shipbuilding and boatbuilding culture, especially during prehistoric times and in the medieval period (10,000 BC – 1500 AD). It is both a museum, a research institution and an active boatyard.

The museum consists of a Viking Ship Hall, which includes special temporary exhibitions and a cinema, where a film about the excavation of the ships is shown and the lateron added extension "Museum island".

The Aciticity Centre for School Services and the museum boatyard, where you can watch shipwrights at work, are located here. As well as a large collection of traditional Nordic wooden boats, among those the five Viking ships found at Suldelev, at the harbour of this island, as well as the Archaelogical Workshop.

Furthermore you can enjoy a guided tour or take a boat trip on Roskilde Fjord.

The museum is especially a museum for children, with activities like dressing up like a Viking, swining a heavy sword or writing your name in runic letters.
