If you are interested in old vessels, as well as the future development of e.g. the fishing industry, then you should pay the "South African Maritime Museum" in Cape Town a visit.
The museum does not only feature a section devoted to the history of the port, shipping lines and a big number of shipwrecks, but also two ships open for visitors, moored in various parts of the habor. These ships are firstly the "Alwyn Vincent", a steam tug launched in Venice in 1859, and secondly the "SAS Somerset", the last existing "boom defence vessel" from the year 1941, located in the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.
All this makes the South African Maritime Museum a major attraction and a definite destination on the map of everyone interested in the sea.
