National Maritime Museum Sri Lanka

The "National Maritime Museum Sri Lanka", housed in a 16th-century Dutch warehouse near the Old Gate of Galle Fort, displays a variety of exhibits connected with seafaring, maritime trade, fishing and sea-life. 

Many shipwrecks were found on the grounds around this city, some of these treasures were salvaged and put on display in the museum, such as the wheel of Sri Lanka´s first warship, the Sri Lanka Navy Vijaya from 1949.

Furthermore models of fishing boats and dioramas showing the techniques, as well as exhibits highlighting the various species and breeds of fish and coral life   are displayed.
