Contact Us The Museu da Marinha is one of the top addresses for people interested in ships of the age of discoveries and forward. The museum is located in the west wing of the Jeronimos Monastery and shows the glorious history of the seafaring nation Portugal.
Thanks to a lot of space the museum is capable to house more than 17.000 items, amongst others maps from the 16th century depicting the world during that time, terrestrial globes, porcelain, Asiatic ships and a 15th century armor.
Other highlights are two 18th century ceremonial barges (one built for Queen Maria I / other transporting Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany and Queen Elizabeth II of England), a 19th century royal cabin from the yacht of Queen Amelia, the seaplane "Santa Cruz" that made the first crossing of the south Atlantic in 1922 and the world's largest collection of astrolabes.
The oldest exhibit is a wooden figure representing the Archangel Raphael that accompanied Vasco da Gama on his voyage to India.
